Houseof x Sow Many Seeeds Gifting
For our blog series brands we love, houseof are introducing you to Lizzie the founder and owner of Sow Many Seeeds Gifting.
We are so excited to have you feature on our blog, tell us a little bit about yourself and your brand
I’m Lizzie, the founder of Sow Many Seeds Gifting which specialises in eco-friendly plantable gifts that keep on giving! Each product is designed to delight the recipient from the moment of receiving, to watching them burst into beautiful flowers that attract pollinators and wildlife into our outdoor spaces.
I understand that you created the business during the pandemic; where did the idea *sprout* from? (Sorry, rubbish joke)
Lockdown forced us all to slow down, and as I eased into the slower pace of life (my job at the time was in the fast-paced events industry) I began to enjoy watching nature ‘carry on’ and uncurl whilst the rest of the world was on hold. 2020 saw an increase in new gardeners and people re-connecting with their outdoor spaces which led me to create products that were pleasing on the eye but that had a function and ability to give back to nature. To give a bouquet of flowers is lovely but they have a limited life span… to give someone the ability to plant their own is so rewarding and provides months of enjoyment not only for the recipient but for pollinators too. From this my concept emerged – ‘gifts that keep on giving’.
For anyone wanting to start a new business, what advice would you give them?
Starting your own business is tricky business, it really is a roller coaster ride of inconsistent highs and lows. But when riding the highs, it really is very rewarding so stick with it as quiet periods will pass. My advice would be to say yes to any opportunity no matter how scary it seems at first and you’ll work out how to do it afterwards. Persevere through the lows and surround yourself with people who believe in your ideas and want you to succeed. You must be comfortable with being uncomfortable, you’ll either be too busy or too quiet, it is rare to find a happy median, but you get use to it (I hope). I say all the above, however I am definitely still trying to implement this myself!
What does 2022 have in store for you and your business?
Having done a full year of business its given me an insight in the peaks and troughs and my aim this year is to expand and grow the wholesale side of my business. I have some exciting partnerships in the pipeline with some lovely like-minded businesses and lots of new product offerings up my sleeve that I cant wait to share!
An earth-loving business, how do you practice sustainability in your craft? Are there any new ideas you’d like to implement this year?
Being a business that is passionate in protecting the environment it is important that each product is developed, made and sent with this in mind. I only use sustainably sourced materials and all our packaging is free from plastic, fully compostable and recyclable. I am in always exploring more ways that I can do more and I’m currently looking at a ‘plant a tree’ per order scheme.
What has been your biggest achievement since creating your business?
At this stage I am very grateful that I’ve been able to set the foundation of a profitable business and survive and thrive in my first year of existing. I am hoping to expand on this and grow the seed further!
Now we know your garden must look wonderful, but how would you describe your home interior style?
My interior style at home is ‘hectically eclectic’! At the moment I wouldn’t say I have a defined style, I run my business from home so any inch of space is taken up with packaging boxes, tape and towers of plant pots! As I expand my business, I do hope to move to a self-contained studio so I can separate business with home life and start to build a more of a refined (and less cardboard box related) style.
Finally, if you had to pick a houseof light which one would you choose?
I love The Caged ceiling Light. I love the softly curved design and I’m intrigued but the shadow it will cast on the room when lit up.
