Lighting a Bathroom without Windows.
Windowless bathrooms are becoming increasingly common, particularly in new developments. While these spaces can initially appear dark and unwelcoming, strategic lighting and design can transform them into bright, inviting areas. Here's how to achieve that illuminated look, with spaces for product recommendations.
Wall Lights or Pendant Ceiling Lights
The sink area requires the most light. Installing wall lights or pendant ceiling lights on either side of the mirror ensures the light is focused where it's needed most. This setup not only illuminates your face without shadows but also reflects light back into the room, enhancing overall brightness.
If you are lucky enough to have a freestanding bath we love making a statement and hanging a low ceiling light above it. It not only adds a touch of luxury giving a hotel-like feel it will also supply a good amount of light to the rest of the room. As you have the space, you can choose to hang a light with multiple bulbs to give maximum impact. You can also hang this slightly lower to ensure light reaches the rest of the room.
Flush Lights
In smaller bathrooms or downstairs loos, a central flush light can make a significant difference. It directs the eye upwards, creating a sense of space and height, and a single bulb can adequately light these compact areas.
Reflective Tiles
To amplify light, consider installing reflective tiles. Glossy surfaces bounce light around the room, making it feel brighter and larger. While lighter colors are more effective, the reflective quality of darker tiles can also enhance light distribution.
Bulb Color Temperature
Mimicking natural daylight is crucial in a windowless bathroom. Bulbs with a cooler color temperature (above 4000K) emit a light akin to daylight, making the space feel more natural and vibrant. While warmer bulbs create a cozy atmosphere, cooler bulbs are better suited for bathroom activities.
Fixtures and Fittings
Choosing reflective metal surfaces for your fixtures and fittings can further enhance the light in your bathroom. Opt for clear shower screens and chrome radiators to maximise light reflection and dispersion throughout the space.
