Lighting trends 2023.

Calm nature

In 2023, the nature chapter trend will have a link between wellness being with organic and cosy materials. Materials such as wool, cotton, clay, velvet, and ceramics are key elements for a smooth organic environment.

Natural colours and environmentally friendly materials. This is especially true of apartments, houses and offices located in megacities, where forests and fresh air are sorely lacking. The trend is green and brown shades, as well as yellow and blue solutions. Among the materials, stone, wood and even straw are popular.

The most trending shades can be divided into 3 groups. First of all, these are light colours – white, beige, cream, etc. Neutral solutions that have a calming effect on the nervous system are in demand – all representatives of the pastel palette.

Wood, wood, wood! Since pine is one of the most robust and fast-growing woods in coastal regions, Scandinavians primarily use pine – also because of its light and fresh colouring. In general, all light types of wood that are processed and used sustainably work.

Colour blocking

As we saw at Milan Design Week, a major theme was colour blocking in vibrant hues. With the tumultuous times we’re living in, finding moments to be playful and have fun is key – and this is reflected in our homes, as bold colours become increasingly prominent.

In 2023, watch out for pops of primary colours as accessories and accents in the home. From a colour psychology perspective, the three primary colours of red, blue, and yellow represent the body, mind and emotions respectfully. Loud and unapologetic, primary colours are high saturation and will add a playful charm to a space, bringing with them unmistakable energy.

Fun, mood-boosting pops of colour are here to stay through 2023. The link between brightly coloured decor – from bedding and lampshades to rugs and more – and our happiness levels has come to light in recent months, as more and more of us are choosing to decorate boldly.

Despite the prevalence of neutral earth tones in contemporary interior design, bold pops of colours are growing in popularity too, and lighting is next to be swept up in this trend. Bold colour lights and colour-changing lights will be one of the sought-after lighting trends of 2023, as more people realise the benefits of vibrancy in decor.

Glass

The way in which light is refracted through glass creates an inimitable warm and cosy atmosphere. Glass is an elegant yet versatile substrate, suited to both minimal and sophisticated schemes alike. It plays into our overarching trend Calm Nature with ease.

We have smooth, ribbed and frosted glass options, in clear and smoked glass, and this season we have bought our best-selling opal disk wall lights in a new clear glass finish.

Cordless lighting

Rechargeable lamps are the perfect way of bringing light into a spot where there isn't a power point or an area where you simply don't want a wire to take up space. Cordless lamps can be used anywhere around the home, including as garden lighting for the exterior atmosphere.

Our cordless lamps have up to 7 hours of run time, with a battery life of around 300 completed charge cycles. It’s a simple idea with great consequences, there will be no more tripping over wires or stretching them beyond their reach to areas that need light. They are the perfect portable centrepiece for a table; the ideal ‘instant-office’ table lamp, and a wonderful solution to lighting up your sideboards.

Outdoor lighting

In a world still feeling the impact of the pandemic, garden and outdoor spaces are increasingly viewed as a sanctuary within home environments. By 2023, the garden will be established as a key living space, representing a connection to nature and a space of calm and wellness.

Our outdoor spaces have become multi-faceted and we have established new relationships with nature and the outdoors since the pandemic. Considering our gardens as additional living space is key, and we are seeing a trend for zonal areas that need to fulfil different functions. Our new range of outdoor lighting has been designed in-house with this in mind. All of the lights in our outdoor collection are IP44 rated, waterproof and safe for use outdoors (and in bathrooms!). They are versatile, multi-functional and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Creating somewhere to enjoy moments of stillness in the garden is also important to boost mindfulness and mental well-being. Our gardens are a pocket of peace and quiet, a place where we can find refuge in a ‘wellness bubble’ and escape our hectic days.

Blurring the lines between the outside and in is still a huge growing trend, as homeowners look to expand living spaces. Whether that’s creating a kitchen garden, a wellness space or acting as an extension to a playroom – we’re looking to extend our lives to our outdoor spaces.

3D printed

Design Spotlight: 3D-Printed Decorative Accessories

As brands and consumers look to more sustainable production methods, the world of 3D printing has rapidly evolved and is now establishing itself as a key commercial material and method in home design. A hurried response driven by the pandemic saw industries switch from using 3D printing processes for sampling only to final product creation and mass production.
