Our mushroom table lamp.

We just knew that when the mushroom trend broke out, we had to put a houseof stamp on it. This season the funghi trend plays to 1970's interiors revival. Our new table lamp is the fun-gi you want everybody to meet and the one you can always make shroom for (puns absolutely intended, sorry!)

Where did this iconic look stem from?

The mushroom aesthetic has been around for decades; originating in the early seventies with the design of the Panthella Mushroom Lamp by architect Verner Panton. The wonderful shape took wind and inspired designers and architects alike for the following half a century (and counting…) This will be a trending topic in the next interior design season for its iconic 70’s revival, and its whimsical effects - applied in shapes or prints.

But it’s not just interiors that are having a mushroom moment, the fashion industry is all over using the biomaterial mycelium as a leather replacement. Neither plastic nor animal product, mycelium is a sustainable, vegan alternative that has been popular with the likes of McCartney since 2016. It allows luxurious, comfortable products without having detrimental impacts on the planet.

Etsy's Trend Expert, Dayna Isom Johnson, suggests social media is also responsible for the rise of mushroom motifs, which has led to a '131% increase in searches for mushroom lamps'.

Toadstools in interiors

The demand for mushrooms is bordering on a near obsession within interiors; lighting is just the tip of the iceberg. We’ve seen mushroom mugs with the cap as a lid to keep the warmth in, stools, throws, bedsheets and ornaments.

Where is best to style it?

We have partnered with the design-led furniture brand Swoon, to create the sideboard collection - including 4 unique and distinctive table lamps. A leading voice in the next wave of furniture design, Swoon is renowned for its unique and playful look. With an ambition to spark home obsession everywhere, they create distinctive designs that owners will want to keep forever. We envision the mushroom lamp as the perfect sideboard light, a serious statement piece that will give you serious design credentials.

As well as the sideboard, we think our mushroom light would look perfect as a bedside table light or above a fireplace. The curvy shapes that form the light create a playful element to any room, adding a touch of the unusual.

Our colour choice

We chose Sand and Brass as our colourways as they are classic neutrals that do not detract from the bold and whimsical mushroom shape. Sand is soft and subtle which mixes the warmth of cream and the depth of grey. In daylight, sand will subtly change the colour within your home and the lighting will blend with its surroundings. Brass is a natural finish to this contemporary design. A popular neutral in modern homes, this solid block tone oozes class and sophistication. The small brass sphere in our sand-coloured mushroom ties the two products together, making them a great pair.
